I was unable to find any image online for some reason so I made a photo of the reproduction in my copy of Lleweln Morgan's The Buddhas of Bamiyan (Wonders of the World Series, Harvard UP) 2012.
Caption reads;
J. Otto Seibold's proposal for refilling the site of the Twin Towers, from the New Yorker, 15 July 2002: the two Buddhas are rebuilt in New York City, while Twin Towers, accomodating refugees, occupy the empty niches at Bamiyan. From a radical Ismacist perspective, the two acts of destruction might indeed seem related, both being attacks on cultures perceived to be opposed to "true" Islam they claim to espouse.
